Life Force with the vocals of Dotty Green had a few Hi Nrg releases in 1984 and 1985.
Pretty frivolous and light and very much synonymous with the Hi Nrg sound that was so popular after the disco era.  Songs like this got a lot of play at Heaven in London and The Saint in New York City and Trocadero Transfer in San Francisco.
As A.I.D.S. decimated the community this sound pretty much went to the wayside.  House became the standard and more Euro Dance was being made which brought that lightweight dance sound into the late 80's and 90's.

At the time it wasn't my favorite.  But as entries in my disco museum they are valid to be aware of and to be embraced by some, why not?

Belgian Electro Deliciousness Starflight

Double A side 1984 Belgian import.  Original mix of Dance to the Beat and 2 edits and the flip Dancer.  Thanks to Xavier F. for providing his edit to the zip.

In 1987 they put out a Synth Pop remix covers album called Euro Cli-Max Mix.  Which I don't have but would really like to hear.

CCCan't You See Vicious Pink SYNTH POP FANTASTIC

Vicious Pink Phenomena later known as Vicious Pink were the epitome of Synth Pop New Wave.  When their debut single came out in 1984 the scene was ripe for their sound and CCCan't You See was a alternative dance club smash.  I especially love the French version which I provide for you in the deluxe zip.

Since CCCan't You See has been the most played song on my iTunes list on my iMAC for ages I figured I should honor it in some way.  It was a WBMX classic so you know they loved this record in Chicago.

The follow-up Fetish was pretty good too but just not quite as infectious.

Vicious Pink was formed in Leeds in 1981.  They broke up in 1986.  Originally they sang back-up for Soft Cell.  That's when they were called Vicious Pink Phenomena.
They were sure cool looking!  Josie Warden was able to sing equally well in French or in English though this didn't help the band to chart in France.

Bobby O is the man! Pet Shop Boys, Divine, The Flirts, Waterfront Home, Oh Romeo and more

What can be said about Bobby Orlando, (Robert Phillip Orlando), the king of Hi NRG.  I've heard he was a homophobe who clearly made a lot of his money from the gay scene.  I've heard he was idolized by the Pet Shop Boys and are the reason why they decided to make that kind of music (and of course collaborated with him until they got a better offer).  I've heard many things but don't really know much factually.  make it on my own free enterprise
He certainly had a prolific career and some of his stuff is a lot better then others.  The sound is clearly repetitive.  But it was a winning sound and he just kept repeating it over and over in different ways.  The disco era was over but people still really wanted to dance, so why not?  Especially in Europe where the dance music never really stopped charting after the disco era.
Divine who is truly one of my idols worked with Bobby Orlando for a lot of his earlier releases.  Some of which even became pop hits in Europe.  A fate that eluded him in his American homeland. SOME DIVINE

The 1983 release Waterfront Home Take a Chance on Me was the perfect straddling of italo disco and hi nrg.  This is one of the acts that Bobby was actually in himself along with Tony Caso and Christina Criscione.  In this zip there is a marvelous edit done by my friend the illustrious DJ Paul Goodyear.
TAKE A CHANCE ON ME
 GREAT BIG BOBBY ZIP

I'm not even going to tell you what's in the zip.  I will say that it's got a great combination of things.  Some better known and some less.  But all in high quality mp3.  Bobby Orlando, the definitive sound of club music in the 80's.  White NRG club music.  WHO'S YOUR BOYFRIEND by ERIC

Bright Nothing World was a 2010 release.  Nice to see he is still embracing dance.  Question is, is anybody listening?

TAKE ME UP HIGH the video THE LADY BUNNY

#43 on the U.S. Dance Charts this week and rising...in fact the next week it hit #29.

lady-bunny-easterThe funny thing is we sent the song to DJ pools all over the world and I’ve just read a feedback sheet from Lebanon and France and they don’t know what Wigstock is! They don’t know who Lady Bunny is! They just like the song. To me, that’s very encouraging because while some people might listen to it because they know me or because I am a drag queen, you know that might turn other people off. The music industry is in a tailspin and they’re not looking for the next 50-year-old, overweight transvestite. They’re looking for the next Beyonce and Britney Spears. But at the same time, in the world of dance music, sometimes they’ve overlooked a really freaky image like Kevin Aviance or Divine or RuPaul or Sylvester. So a drag queen or a freak has been able to get over occasionally in the dance market. I hope to be one of those freaks!”
