Fancy more then just Come Inside and Chinese Eyes

Manfred Alois Segieth is Fancy.  Based out of Munich he was a campy hi Nrg artist and producer who worked with many artists and under the alias Fancy for himself.  I don't usually write about songs that had a huge crossover success.  Though Fancy had hits in Europe and especially Germany, in 1985 his double A side of Chinese Eyes and Come Inside managed to have a huge impact on U.S. dance floors climbing all the way to #2.

One of the aliases he has used was Tess and that's the one that can be seen on the Psychic Interface single Tribal Stomp.

The first charted single was 1984's Slice Me Nice so it wasn't until his 3rd that he had his biggest and most well known hit.  I'd venture to say 1987's Raving Queen is one of the lesser known ones.  The single cover alone is a scream, you go Raving Queen.

Usually in my posts you can see that I'm super enthusiastic and raving.  As you noticed you're not getting much of that here.  I do like some of these songs and I really enjoyed the double A side in 1985 but I can't say that Fancy is one of my favorites.

Moonlight Affair

Rainer C. Herzmann is Cliff Turner.  He recorded 3 euro/italo disco tracks for ZYX in 1986 and 1987.

Moonlight Affair is a favorite of the genre.  I love playing it over and over.  It's so cheerful.

K.B. Caps is the alias for Cay Hume.  His first maxi single on XYZ records was released in 1986.  Do you really need me? is definitely considered an italo disco classic.  The zip below contains many versions including remixes and a more current take on the gem.  For a German record it certainly captures the spirit of italo disco.

1986 was pretty late in the italo disco era.  In fact there were less and less releases by then.  Germany's ZYX came to the rescue and kept the genre going with this record.

Your Heart Keeps Burning Blind Date

Blind Date was a Synth Pop/Euro Disco group from Germany.  They put out an album and three maxi singles.  The second of which was the catch Your Heart Keeps Burning in 1985 was a favorite at The Saint and on Fire Island.

A 1992 remix got the record play again.  It also kind of made it sound less outdated.  Though still on a true Euro tip.  They did not house it up.

It's a light and airy ditty.  It fits into the mood of my blog.  I hope you enjoy it too.

Blind Date

Does it really matter that Den Harrow didn't really sing the songs he is attributed to have sung?  His image and his dancing were also a part of the magic weren't they?  I'm not gonna defend him.  This marketing tool has been used in Italy often and in other countries too.  So in a way it's not really his fault is it?   Fat Den Zip

There is no doubting that he had a long string of hits from 1983 right up to the end of the 80's.  In fact there was enough interest in him that in Germany he even had some releases into the 90's and he received the Bravo Golden Otto award in 1987.  This signified that he was Germany's favorite male vocalist, even ahead of Michael Jackson!

The first release To Meet Me in 1983 was one of many greatly produced Turatti and Chieregato tracks that propelled Italo Disco so much in the 80's.

In the 2000's he was once again in the public eye in Italy.  As a contestant on Isola dei Famosi, a strange mixture of Survivor and Celebrity Big Brother.  He often cried on air and definitely had a hard time on the island.

The zip contains most of the hits and even a few of the lesser hits.

They are a perfect mirror of the italo disco genre because he had songs representing all of the types of  the genre.  Some better then others but in any case still a great peek into the sound.

Particularly long for 1985 (almost ten minutes) but it's delicious straight through.

This is just the kind of italo disco we scream over here in Disco Vinyl.   The only release by

Tea Ês.  It came out in 1985 on the Germany label on Jupiter Records.

Are Sugarmen really shy? Who in the hell are Jack's Project? Can a German record be Italo Disco?

Jack's Project had three maxi single efforts in the mid 80's.  The last of which was called Shy Shy Sugarman.  Released in 1986 this German Ariola Records twelve inch is not particularly well known but undoubtably has the kind of sound that fits in very well with the Disco Vinyl blog feeling.

I thank my dear Scottish friend Brian for calling it to my attention or it would have remained in that abyss of unknown Synth Pop, Italo style songs which have passed me by.  I'd be the first to admit there were many because during the height of the italo disco era I was at university and listening to a lot of alternative music.  I developed my passion for italo disco during my visits to Italy in those years and in my nights at the Roman discos.  Most of those were in 1983 but there were more visits in 1984, 1985 and 1986 until I had a pretty long break and then moved to Rome.  The D.C. clubs I went to in my university years played more Hi NRG then I would have liked, but a few Euro sounding records to break through.

Jack's Project also did a cover of the Hi NRG classic Wake up by Stop which had been released the year before.  An insanely infectious ditty in any version!

 But clearly by the time I moved to Rome it had been taken over by house music and the more Euro sounding dance sounds which owed nothing to Italo Disco and never hit me with the same passion.  Hence I have dedicated my blog to earlier dance music which tickles my fancy more then what I was dancing to during my peak of clubbing in the early 90's.
