In my five years selling on Ebay this obscure disco funk jam has been my very best showing. With a final sales price of just under $700.00 it certainly made my day and paid a few bills. If only it had been Near Mint I would have done even better. I've actually seen a copy go for over $1,200! Since then it has shown up both in re-issue and bootleg so I'd imagine bidders are much more cautious about bidding high on this one.

Family Tree by Family Tree was written and sung by Sharon Brown and released in 1976 on Anada records. She of course five years later had a disco smash with I Specialize in Love. Her other releases failed to create a murmur. But Family Tree with its soulful flutes and deep gospel tinged vocals will remain legendary. Apparently it was a major crowd pleaser on Larry Levan's dance-floor at The Paradise Garage.    I specialize in love

It's that fantastic year for italo disco again, 1983.  This time we have a super rare release on Italy's Fuzz Dance label.  This one is called Plastic Love and it's super spacey.

Even the label graphic is cool.  I must be feeling generous today.  I have never written so many blogs in one weekend.  I wish I had come upon a blog like this and gotten so many cool high quality mp3's one after the other myself!

Formed in 1980 in Parma, in the North of Italy, (think parmesan cheese), Kirlian Camera are at the forefront in the experimental synth sound. They are actually still together and releasing material from time to time. Their first gig was at an Italian Gay Pride party.

Considered the fathers of the Italian electronic music scene the group had a volatile career often spent fighting record labels that wanted to exploit their more commercial side. Blending new wave, dance, minimal, synth-pop, goth, and post-punk they were not easy to peg and they liked it that way.

The main member is Angelo Bergamini, the other members have changed over the years. Their first release was entitled Dawn in 1980 followed quickly by a self titled e.p. in 1981. Incidentally they were never big in Italy but very much appreciated abroad. They are now touring in support of a special 4 cd retrospective box set including just about all their releases.


I just sold my 1988 l.p. Eclipse (Das Schwarze Denkmal) to a very enthusiastic Dutch guy. It featured a more dark minimal sound then some of their earlier material which could have been more easily classified as Italo disco.

Angelo was also a member of Hipnosis who had a massive Italo disco hit with Pulstar which became a Top 10 pop hit around Europe. Anfrando Maiola (Koto) was also involved with this release. This Vangelis written tune is another of the all time classic italo disco releases. It can be found on the old site to download if I remember correctly.


Angelo remained active with Kirlian Camera despite his success with Hipnosis, 1983's 12" Communicate was released on the seminal italo disco label Memory Records and is in fact also an Italo Disco classic.


The 1983 l.p. featuring Edges and Communicate, It Doesn't Matter, Now is considered their best. It's moody to say the least and introspective and dark. We already know that I have a penchant for unusual English pronunciation. It was their most successful commercially too.


1984's big Kirlian release was Edges followed by 1985's Blue Room again they were able to come up with Italo Disco Classics.


They have been incredibly prolific averaging a new release every other year for the past thirty years. I'm attracted to the way they present themselves. But I have to admit I don't know a ton about their music.


By the 1990's their releases became more avantgarde and lesser known. So they are considered more of a cult type attraction in retrospect. Definitely highly collectible. Many of their releases fetch a pretty penny.

Well when this came out in 1981 New York sure was movin'.  And movin' to the beat of fierce disco and new wave.  Is New York movin' in 2014?  A lot of people I used to know are movin' out.

But I will always thank New York for being such a part of my formative years.  So much fun.  Back in the day I guess I thought it would never end.  ENJOY THIS SCARCE COLLECTIBLE

An out and out Italo disco classic.  Nearly impossible to find on vinyl unless you're willing to shell out hundreds of dollars.  A 1985 release on the Italian label Sensation records, Carlo Olivo had a few follow-up release but none quite as magical as this one.

Captain Terra X (24 More Hours) by Tea Ês

Particularly long for 1985 (almost ten minutes) but it's delicious straight through.

This is just the kind of italo disco we scream over here in Disco Vinyl.   The only release by

Tea Ês.  It came out in 1985 on the Germany label on Jupiter Records.

Move Your Body & Law and Order Le Roc Le Cop Holy Grail Private Press Disco

A scarce release from 1979 on the private Press K. Shavonne label.  Someone just paid $1,500 for it on eBay so I thought you'd like to check it out.

I SIGNORI DELLA GALASSIA magical PROXIMA CENTAURI seminal space disco

I Signori Della Galassia came up with some real space rock that is considered the roots of spacey italo disco.

 They were composed of Franco Delfino (keyboards, voice), Gigi Mosello (keyboards, voice), Manuel Gustavino (guitar), Bruno Govone (guitar), Sergio Babboni (bass) and Beppe Aleo (drums) and formed in Savona, Italy.  Here I include the 12" for Proxima Centauri.  All of their releases are relatively rare.

You....See by Hélicon 1983 Crash italo disco treat

Hélicon only had the one italo disco hit, but it sure was a doozy.  Released on Crash records a part of the sublime il discotto group.  It was yet another example of why 1983 was the best year for italo disco.  YOU....SEE a download

The vocals were by Elio Conti.  He had a 1982 italo disco release under the moniker Fancy called Null Null.  

Aaron Broomfield Modern Soul Great

Miami modern soul artist Aaron Broomfield is better known for I'm Gonna Miss Ya, No Handouts and Polyphase.  These 12" released on Mountain Records are highly collectible.  Polyphase

 Apparently only 2,000 copies of I'm Gonna Miss Ya were pressed but I've seen them going around on Ebay for years.  Now there is a bootleg out with both Polyphase and I'm Gonna Miss Ya on it.

These two tracks called Party Faces and Don't Cover up Your Feelings are also quite solid.

Robot with a Rose by Biss

Here's an extremely rare and unusual italo disco number.  It was released in 1982 on Dischi International Records.  Don't have much to say about it but the more of this kind of music I find the more I will feel joy in my life.

Robot with a Rose is quirky and it's oh so right.

Another italo disco holy grail Travel Made in Thailand

Just the first track off of a super rare italo disco ep called Travel made in Thailand.

Thai Dance is by Mauro Marani and was released in 1987 on the Italian label Emmerci.  I'd love to have the whole ep.  THAI DANCE

INSANELY RARE VOCODER FUNK the pinch SHOT OUT

A limited edition 7" inch single on a small Texas label called Spider-Mo Records has become a highly collectible record. Shot Out by the pinch is a Electro vocoder romp.

I don't go on much about my Vocoder fascination but it is one of my passions. It's featured on lots of classic Funk, Italo and Electro records that I'm fond of.

Maybe it reminds me of Peter Frampton. I loved his talk box vocals when I was in Elementary school. But not long after my passion turned toward disco.

The 12" single is a re-press and is not collectible like the original 7" single.
