Ti Sento Matia Bazar

Maria Bazar featuring Antonella Ruggero are one of the most loved artists in Italy of the past 45 years.  Ti Sento (I feel you) from 1986 was one of their most danceable masterpieces.  It was produced by the Italo Disco legend Celso Valli.

It got morning music play at The Saint and was also recorded in Spanish.
Their first record was released in 1976 and they peaked with the huge single Vacanze Romane in 1983.  It was the critic's choice for the San Remo festival that year.  A #1 hit in Italy and the fourth biggest record that year.  Ti Sento was also a #1 hit and it was the 27th biggest hit of the year in Italy in 1986.  TI SENTO  Solo Tu in 1977 was another #1 hit for them and came in at #3 for the year.  They are one of very few acts who have won the San Remo festival more then once.

Alphaville

German Synth Pop Band Alphaville debuted with their first singles in 1983 and their first album in 1984 Forever Young.

They were huge right off the bat.  Particularly in Europe.  I was living in Rome in 1983 and Big in Japan and Sounds Like a Melody were massive.  Melody even hit the #1 spot.
Though the members of the band changed over time.  Their output was prolific, even if they were never able to capture that initial success.  In the U.S. Big in Japan spent two weeks at #1 on the dance charts in 1984, their only U.S. #1.  And was a #1 pop hit in  Germany, Greece, Sweden, Turkey and Venezuela. They were after all considered more alternative, new wave in the U.S. and mostly got airplay on radio station like KROQ in L.A. and WLIR in Long Island.

Before there was Madonna there was Deep in Vogue

No need to get into a whole theory on how important Malcolm McLaren was.  Fact is he was genius!

Madonna ever the one to take inspiration from others was certainly influenced by this 1989 release by Malcolm McLaren and the Bootzilla Orchestra.  I can assure you being on the New York club scene in flying colors during this period, Deep in Vogue was OVER!
ZIP O VOGUE
And the video of course featured the legendary Willie Ninja.  Truly a master of the art of voguing and an inspirational force on the New York Club scene in that period.  I used to love to go to Sound Factory Bar on Wednesdays where it seemed like the whole dance floor was packed with professional dancers and banjie boys.  But it was always just for a hot minute because my tribe was around the corner at Disco 2000 at The Limelight.  And whatever party was serving club kid action that competed with it.

Sia Siou (Breaking Up)

I have a feeling that if you only know a few italo disco songs this is one of them.
Though the title is not Italian.  I guess it mean (Breakin' Up), but what language?

WAY FUN FROM 1983

In any case Esavu' is Paolo Granelli.
