BEN LIEBRAND MAKES POUSSEZ! EVEN SEXIER

Dutch DJ, Producer and Mastermixer really did some magic on an older disco tune in 1986.  His mix of Poussez's 1980 disco hit Come on and Do It was memorable and many years before the disco edit craze we've been experiencing since the millenium.

BEN LIEBRAND REMIX OF POUSSEZ

Poussez was like a super-group featuring Alphonse Mouzon and Janet Wright and Connie Harvey and Christine Wiltshire to name a few.  In 1979 and 1980 they had a series of major disco hits.  Boogie with Me and Come on and Do it were the most successful.

POUSSEZ! A fabulous Roy Thode remix.

DANISH HARMONICA PLAYER LEE OSKAR ONCE A MEMBER OF WAR...HAUNTED HOUSE

Rare and coveted disco 12" release on Elektra from 1978, Lee Oskar's Haunted House is very cool.  I just sold mine a few weeks ago to a happy Italian collector.  But luckily I had another copy, check it out HERE
Though born in Copenhagen Lee moved to the U.S. and was one of the founding members of the seminal funk band War.  GRAB IT

PUT OUR HEADS TOGETHER O'JAYS

Though not one of their better known tracks, and they have many.  This 12" single from 1983 ushered in a serious electro funk groove for the R and B band.  From their l.p. When Will I See You Again it didn't cause much of a stir at the time.  But it's now quite collectable and does pretty well whenever it gets posted on Ebay and Gemm.

GET IT HERE  DOWNLOAD IT
I know for myself back in 1983 it passed me right by, but I am very grateful to have been exposed to it later.

The single peaked at #35 on the U.S. R and B charts and #11 on the U.S. dance charts.

TEST THE TRUST MORNING MUSIC GEM

Released in 1991 on the U.K. label Circa Test the Trust by Evident featuring Juliette Tieku brings us back to a time when Morning Music was appreciated.  get it
I have to admit it was brought to my knowledge by a reader of the blog.  I am very appreciative of this and even more appreciative that a buddy of mine in San Diego had the entire 12" to burn.  Better still that he's generous and was happy for me to bring it to all of you.

Morning Music Classic by Any Trouble

Ahhhh morning music a genre relatively unheard of now.  Just think that back in the day a soft rock, new wave or ballad gem could get major exposure on an important crowded dance floor.  Even more incredible to believe that the sounds of pretty could actually bring joy to punters.
WIKIPEDIA THE SAINT
Of course morning music will never be like it once was at the mega super-club in the East Village The Saint.  But that doesn't mean that this style of music should not be celebrated even today.
Any Trouble's Touch and Go is a definitive morning music track.  I'd also have to say it was a nifty name for this relatively obscure group from Manchester.

What are some of your morning music favorites?  How do you define the difference between morning music and sleaze?  Let's see if we can get a few interesting comments for this post.  I don't mind that 95% of the visitors to this site are lurkers but every now and then a comment makes me feel like it's worth my while to continue posting.

Five Special 5 Special was Special

It's hard to believe that 1980 saw such a huge decrease in releases for Disco music.  Because just one year before a huge number of classic disco 12" were released.  Many of which even crossed over to Pop.
WHY LEAVE US ALONE FIVE SPECIAL DOWNLOAD
The delicious Why Leave us Alone by Five Special is a 1979 disco gem.  Lucky for someone I still have the vinyl in my Ebay store ExpatMichael.
MY EBAY AUCTION FOR WHY LEAVE US ALONE
Their debut release The More I Get to Know You was released in 1976.  It's a rare release and is featured on a Mercury 12" promoting a few different acts.  That promo only 12" regular sells for upwards of $200.00 on Ebay.  All the songs on it are PRIMO.
THE MORE I GET TO KNOW YOU DOWNLOAD

It was co-written by the jazz superstar bass player and vocalist Michael Henderson who also wrote and sang the legendary Norman Connors beauty You are My Starship also from 1976.

A NUMBER OF NAMES SHAREVARI and SKITSO (you're my friend)

Seminal Electro disco out of Detroit.  The Detroit techno scene was certainly something major and before it's time!
 SKITSO
SHAREVARI
Skitso is probably a bit more on the new wave tip.

SEMINAL ITALO DISCO LABEL TIME RECORDS

Time Records out of Brescia, Italy was one of the seminal italo disco labels. It was founded in 1984 and was active into the 90's. Atrium, Mike Hammer, Ric Felini, Fred Ventura and Danny Keith were among their roster.

PARADISE GARAGE CLASSIC BY STEVIE WONDER'S EX-WIFE

Syreeta may have only hit the pop charts once in a big way, with her classic duet with Billy Preston With you I'm Born Again but she did have one of the definitive Paradise Garage classics. The 1981 12" release Can't Shake Your Love had them shaking their asses big time.

In this zip I've provided a mix called Mix #6, the Danny Krivit edit and the Larry Levan mix.

As usual by clicking on the post's title you will be brought to the download link.

DAYLIGHT VICKI SUE ROBINSON

Vicki Sue Robinson might be mostly remembered for Turn the Beat Around but she actually had a long string of disco hits. Daylight which was also from 1976 was another gem that was a great crowd-pleaser in clubs all over the world. It was written by Soul superstar Bobby Womack.

Half black and born in Harlem Vicki was one of the major success stories of the disco era. I really enjoy a lot of her songs. Another one I particularly enjoy was released in 1979 and is virtually unknown. It's called What's Happening in my Life and I may post it here after the copy I posted in my Ebay store sells.

MARGHERITA BY MASSARA ITALO DISCO DELIGHT

Based on the children's ditty he love me, he love me not, Margherita (daisy) by Massara is one of the most infectious Italo Disco record ever.

Giuseppe Previde Massara had other releases too but none quite like this one.

Here I provide a zip with the original and two more recently made edits, the Herr Beckman edit and the frisco dub (re-edit) both fun takes on this infectious dance gem.

VENTURA'S SUPER HOT ITALO DISCO DOUBLE A SIDE ANOTHER TIME and TOUCHED

A 1986 release on Italy's Disco 3 label, Touched and Another Time are a genuine double A side. This is a highly coveted 12" release. The vocalist Ornella Ventura had an earlier release on F1 records Italy in 1981 with Che Pena.

As usual hit the title of the blog for your download.

CRAZY BOY TATO 1985 ITALO DISCO GEM

Jacques Fred Petrus had his hands on this one. I love almost everything he does.

Crazy Boy by Tato has the elements I love in classic Italo Disco. There is something just a bit off-kilter about the music, the singing is clearly by non mother tongue English speakers and there is something just a bit melancholy about the melody.

1985 was near the end of Italo Disco but this release on Rennaisance International Records Italy is not to be forgotten.

As usual click on the title of the blog for your download link.

THREE WAY SITUATION NADIE LA FONDE

Dreamy disco release out of Trinidad from 1979 Nadie La Fonde's Three Way Situation has all the right components to make it perfect disco. From the laser sound effects to the breathy vocals in the part where it goes kinda sexy.

Even the record company name is brilliant, Starburst records! This one has been included on a very cool compilation called The Real Sound Of Chicago and Beyond.

Another Adventurous Shep Pettibone Gem ELEANOR

A very hot dance hit in 1987, Eleanor Academia's Adventure still sounds fresh today. It's no wonder Shep Pettibone had the magic touch. It does sound an awful lot like D Train You're the One for Me but you can't go wrong copying that. It was definitely one of the most solid dance record of the entire decade. The little bit of world vocals at the end are also a nice way to take the record out. Bet it sounded hot mixing that and repeating it loads before moving into the next hot number which would probably have been any number of classic early House gems.

So any word on Shep's club out in Asbury Park, New Jersey? I hear he spins most Saturdays.

Just click on the title of this blog entry and you'll be brought right to the download.

SANDY BARBER is Sandy B THE BEST IS YET TO COME northern soul classic

Sandy Barber had her first release in 1977 with The Best is Yet to Come. It featured the theme for the Wonder Woman t.v. series. The l.p. has since became a Northern Soul classic and quite collectible.

It seemed like she just disappeared but then in the 90's she came back as Sandy B and became a hugely successful house/dance artist with two huge #1 dance hits in the U.S. Feel Like Singin' and Make the World Go Round.

Who doesn't want to be queen of the discoteque? Sissy does!

Another Italo disco number from 1984. This one on the seminal Italian label Eyes. Sissy's Queen of the Discoteque is an obscure track. Everyone involved in it didn't have their hands in other Italo Disco tracks.

WICKED CANADIAN BOOGIE or WHO IS AMRA ANYWAY?

Share
|

I had hoped this one was gonna cover most of my February rent.

But damn if I can ever really know what's gonna happen on the old Ebay. I do know that there are no copies on discogs or ebay at the moment. I also know it's one of those obscure disco funk jams out of Canada that get the bidders worked up. Sort of like Are you Lonely? by Hipnotic which I much prefer. But unlike Hipnotic I don't think there are bootleg copies of this one going around.

1983 was a damn hot year for vinyl. A ton of my favorite italo disco came out in 1983 and it was a great year for transitioning. The word "disco" wasn't being used anymore but plenty of us still wanted to go out and dance, and how! I just did the majority of my dancing around Europe so it had an incredible impact on my pleasure sensations in the memory bank.

Amra also had a follow-up single too with Dancin' but I never got that one. I heard it on you tube and it didn't work me quite as much as this one either. Which incidentally was first released with a different title Special Kind of Lovin' and then  Special Kind of Love
